Best snorkeling experience of your life!

Jellyfish LakeThe Jellyfish in Jellyfish Lake are one of the 5 sub-species of common lagoon jellyfish that have been identified in 5 different lakes on Palau. Although people think they do not sting, they actually do, but their sting does not penetrate unless you have sensitive skin, then you should wear a skin or long-sleeves/pants. The lake also contains a few  species of fish, anemones, sponges and snails. Scuba is not allowed in the lake because there is a toxic oxygen-free layer down below, and because snorkeling is less likely to damage the jellyfish, which are quite fragile. If you are lucky to dive on a sunny day, the jellyfish stay close to the surface for sunlight, so that the symbiotic algae that grow in their tissues can do their photosynthesis. This in exchange provides the jellyfish with energy and nutrients.

Floating around between millions of these golden jellies is a surreal encounter with nature that everyone should experience at least once.
